Meet Kia
A qualified Social Worker and Counsellor, having achieved a Bachelor of Social Work with James Cook University (2020) Kia is driven to empower her clients to face their challenges, and overcome them.
If you have found yourself here - Welcome to “Evolving Change”, a Social Work and Counselling Service I designed to specifically meet your unique, individual and personal needs. I created this service to work with people in a holistic, non-judgemental way, to promote wellbeing across the spectrum of your life and community, not just for today, but ongoing.

Although born and bred in Cairns, the community that I love, and where I have established my face-to-face business, I also work and support many clients across our vast Nation, Australia, providing telephone and Social Work support as required.

Whilst I achieved my Social Work credentials in 2020, working in the field of Human Services requires that I maintain and upskill my knowledge consistently to sustain yearly, AASW registration. This ensures that the service you receive is not only current, but also measured against these strict guidelines for practice.

Not only do I bring current practice skills, but I am also able to draw on my own life experiences and challenges, to enrich my interactions through every walk of life.
You may have noticed my logo design which is representative of my ethos in action working with individuals, in that it represents many important ideas within Counselling and Social Work practices, especially the concepts of closing old chapters, encompassing renewal and growth, and of course finding and writing new chapters for change.

I understand that reaching out at times for support can be hard, we may choke, oscillate or avoid the step of reaching out for help, but Brene’ Brown, a researcher of the hard emotions (which we all feel at some point), would say, emotions such as feelings of: vulnerability, shame and guilt, is not vulnerability, it is courage and strength, that ultimately lead us to change. if you only do one thing at this point, never forget that!

However, if you feel you are ready (or may be ready in the future) and would like to explore change and your 'courage in action', I look forward to being of assistance and coming alongside you, as you both move through and above what may have once held you back.

Yours,
Kia Mcdowall
